A part of the Monaro and it's history

EDINBURGH HOUSE

Originally built as a millinery and drapery store in 1875 for his wife Julia, by John Kealman who was a noted craftsman. Kealman built the 1880 Queanbeyan Post Office (now demolished), Presbyterian Manse and other buildings of that era. He also made the first machine made bricks in Southern NSW

GLOBE HOTEL

The building obtained it's first license in 1885 and was known as the Globe Hotel, owned by John Kealman and William John Cane. Thomas Connell was Licensee.

POOLEY'S HOTEL

Between 1890 and 1897, the Hotel was known as Pooleys Hotel when licensed by Phillip Pooley. Following his death his wife, Marianne, daughter of William Cane operated the Hotel.

HARRISON'S HOTEL

From 1902 until 1920, Mrs C.L.Harrison operated this hotel and licensees included Patrick J Ryan (1908 1916) and following his death, his wife, Dolly.

WALSH'S HOTEL

Mrs Elizabeth Walsh, was the lessee of the Hotel before purchasing it in 1905. Mrs Walsh was the daughter-in-law of Edward and Catherine Walsh, first licensee of the Victoria Hotel in 1867. The Victoria Hotel was demolished in the 1980's prior to the construction of the Riverside Plaza. Following the death Mrs Walsh, the Hotel was left to her daughters, Pauline Sullivan and Nance Pooley. Descendants of Mrs Walsh operated the Hotel until 1967. These included: Arthur Sullivan (son in law) Pauline Sullivan (daughter) Loretta O'Rourke(nee Sullivan, daughter of Arthur and Pauline Sullivan) The Hotel is still Known as Walsh's Hotel
